It's Friday morning, 5th April. I return to my desk at the day job from a coffee run to see an email in my inbox titled 'Harper Impulse submission'. My heart starts thumping wildly. It's only been three weeks since I submitted to Harper Impulse , the brand new imprint from Harper Collins, but I've heard via the grapevine that the editors had an acquisitions meeting... I'm not too stressed. A sale would be a dream come true, but a rejection won't be the end of the world. If it's a rejection, then I plan to self-publish. I have a freelance editor on standby and a cover already designed. I may not be anxious, but I can still scarcely breathe as I click open the email. It's two lines only. "Are you free today for a quick call? I'd love to chat further to you about your submission." I've already had friends go through this, so I know editors don't just call to chat about your work. They call to buy. I shoot back a reply. ...
Hmmm. I love the heart background, and the way the main section scrolls over it. The colour is strong and definite; the writing stands out clearly. Perhaps the heart logo with the man, roses and lady in red is one heart too many? maybe have a contrast there? (eg pink or white roses, or some shade of green to bring out the red. Purple or white go well with red; they're its counterpoint on the colour wheel.) But overall the effect is good. It suits you.
ReplyDeleteI love the edging, and as Judes said, everything reads well - but the red is very dark red - I'm guessing the templates don't give you much options such as choosing a slightly lighter shade? Do you know that there are sites where you can get free blogger templates and import them into blogger?
ReplyDeleteLike the edging! I think I may have to fiddle with my blog... It's so boring compared to yours! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love the heart background too! I didn't know there were new templates available either I will have to have a looksie.
ReplyDeleteI like it!
ReplyDeleteLove the hearts background but agree with most ladies that there's just too much red going on now! However - the whole effect has gone very bold! :-) Is this a sign of what's happening to you on a personal level too? :-)
ReplyDeleteI love it!! Very romance writerly. Of course, red is my favourite colour so in my opinion it's not possible to have too much red!
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous.
Love it, Romy.

Love it, Romy, It's gorgeous. Maybe change the colour of the heroine's dress or the roses just for a bit of contrast?
